How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. A program appears under a subject only through a verified link (dedicated degree, major, concentration or documented pathway). A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About music education in Ireland

How music education is organised

Music study in Ireland is offered by universities and by specialist institutions such as the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM), which lists a Bachelor in Music (BMus) with specialisms, a Bachelor in Music Education, a Diploma in Music Teaching and Performance, a Master in Music Performance, a Recital Artist Diploma and a Doctor in Music Performance (DMusPerf). Qualifications are placed on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ), which QQI describes as having ten levels. Undergraduate applications to Irish higher education institutions are processed centrally by the CAO, while the institutions themselves decide on admission; music performance courses additionally require an audition.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to Ireland. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

Conservatoire programme ladder at RIAM
RIAM lists a Bachelor in Music (BMus) and Bachelor in Music Education, a Diploma in Music Teaching and Performance, a Master in Music Performance (MMusPerf), a Recital Artist Diploma and a Doctor in Music Performance (DMusPerf), and describes itself as an associate college of Trinity College, The University of Dublin. National Framework of Qualifications
QQI states the NFQ has ten levels and describes what learners need to know, understand and be able to do to achieve a qualification; for the level of a specific qualification it points to the NFQ level indicators, the Irish Register of Qualifications and NARIC Ireland for foreign qualifications. Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and qualification registers are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI)
State agency overseeing standards and quality of further and higher education and maintaining the National Framework of Qualifications.
Central Applications Office (CAO)
Processes applications for undergraduate courses at Irish higher education institutions; admission decisions are made by the institutions.

Credits and qualification framework

Qualification levels follow the ten-level NFQ; which level a given qualification sits at should be checked on the NFQ level indicators or the Irish Register of Qualifications. No equivalence with other countries' qualifications is claimed here. Whether music therapy is a regulated profession in Ireland was not verified.

No degree on this site guarantees admission, funding, employment, a visa or teacher registration, and nothing here is visa or credit-transfer advice.

Admissions and auditions. RIAM states that all undergraduate and postgraduate applicants must audition. Irish applicants audition in person, EU applicants may choose in person or online, and overseas applicants audition online (a video first, then an interview if they pass pre-screening). Repertoire differs by course, for example two contrasting pieces totalling up to 15 minutes for undergraduate strings, wind, brass, percussion and keyboard, a portfolio of two to three original works for composition, and a self-chosen programme of up to 20 minutes for the MMus. Other institutions set their own requirements. Source
