Programs by award and subject in Belgium

How results are ordered: alphabetically by institution, or by most recently checked when you choose that sort. There is no price ranking, because tuition in different currencies, fee categories and bases (per year, per credit, whole program) is not comparable. A program appears under a subject only through a verified link (dedicated degree, major, concentration or documented pathway). A value we could not verify is shown as “not published”, never as “no”. Items marked Sponsored are paid placements; they never change verification or order. Online programs are not counted as physically located in a state or city, and an institution’s location does not tell you whether it enrols students from your country.

About music education in Belgium

How music education is organised

Music is taught at higher-education level in two separate systems. In Flanders, schools of arts within university colleges and associations (for example LUCA School of Arts in Leuven, the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, the Royal Conservatoire Brussels of Erasmushogeschool Brussel and KASK & Conservatorium in Ghent) offer Dutch-language bachelor, master and postgraduate programmes, with a limited number of English-taught masters. In the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, the écoles supérieures des arts (Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles, Conservatoire royal de Liège and the IMEP in Namur) teach in French in two cycles. Admission is normally by an entrance test or audition in addition to the required prior diploma.

Qualification structures

Names and levels are local to Belgium. Similar names in other countries are not interchangeable.

French-speaking Community: bachelier and master
At the Conservatoire royal de Liège the first cycle (180 credits) leads to a bachelier de qualification or de transition, the latter giving access to the master; the second cycle (120 credits) leads to a master. Specialised, in-depth and teaching masters also exist, some co-awarded with a university. Source
Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles degree ladder
The Brussels conservatoire states a bachelier of three years (180 credits) and a music master of two years (120 credits), plus one-year specialised, teaching and in-depth masters open only on prior-study conditions. Source
Flanders: bachelor, master, postgraduate
LUCA School of Arts lists three-year bachelor programmes (180 ECTS) and two-year music masters (120 ECTS), with Dutch the language of instruction for bachelors and a limited English-taught master offer; the Royal Conservatoire Brussels also lists a post-master Postgraduaat Muziek of 20 credits per semester. Bodies that matter, and what each one does

Accreditation, validation, education authority and qualification registers are different roles. Do not read a listing by one body as evidence from another.

Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles
Organises the French-speaking Community's écoles supérieures des arts (such as the Conservatoire royal de Liège) under its Décret Paysage.
Vlaamse overheid (Flemish government)
Publishes programme data for Flemish higher-education programmes through the 'Opleiding in cijfers' website referenced on programme pages.

Credits and qualification framework

Both communities use ECTS-based cycles (bachelor/bachelier 180 credits, master 120 credits). Titles differ by community and institution (Bachelor Muziek, Bachelier, Master en musique, specialised or teaching masters) and are recorded as published.

No degree on this site guarantees admission, funding, employment, a visa or teacher registration, and nothing here is visa or credit-transfer advice.

Admissions and auditions. Admission is normally subject to a successful entrance test or audition. The Conservatoire royal de Bruxelles and the Conservatoire royal de Liège require an admission test (performance, sight-reading, interview) in addition to the access title; LUCA runs scheduled master assessments with deadlines; Flemish bachelors are taught in Dutch (B2 level stated by LUCA).
